Hardware #
- Laptop: Early 2015 13" Retina MacBook Pro, Intel Core i7-5557U, 16 GB RAM, Debian 13 (trixie). This is my couch laptop and is my main computer. The battery is long dead. I have a replacement but I'm lazy so it stays plugged in, on my a little couch table.
- Workstation: Intel NUC8i5BEH, Intel Core i5-8259U, 16 GB RAM, Debian 13 (trixie). This is in my home office and is what I use to play Factorio when the bug hits. I bought it used from eBay for $140.
- Phone: Pixel 9 Pro XL running stock Android. I purchased this new and I hope to have it for a very long time. I've used CalyxOS and would love to use it again but they're sorting out some things I guess.
Software #
- Passwords: KeePassXC on my computers and KeePassDX on my phone. I use Syncthing to keep my passwords synced between my devices. I wrote about my setup if you want to know more.
- Browsers: Firefox. I sometimes goof off from the sofa so want to log into my work email and teams to monitor things and for that, I use Chrome. I can't stand Edge and I really hate Microsoft. I try to avoid it on my personal computers.
- RSS Reader: Feedbin. I've tried the self hosted options but I've grown to really love the Feedbin layout and how it works so went back to it. I just pop it open in a web browser tab.
- Email: Fastmail. It's a great service and I gladly pay to host all my domain email here. I use the Fastmail app on my phone but on the computer, I use their webmail client.
- Notes: I use Obsidian for my notes/second brain. I use Syncthing to keep my notes in sync.
- Markdown Editor: Typora. I've tried some of the open source options and I know I can just use VS Code or Obsidian but I really prefer the writing experience in Typora. It allows me to focus on the writing.
- Messaging: Signal. I'm open to using other platforms but most of my friends use iMessage and you know how those asshole Apple users are. ;)
