Looking for non-Amazon reading workflows—recommendations welcome
My current workflow for reading books is Amazon centric. If an eBook is available on a platform other than Amazon, I will purchase it there. I currently buy from eBooks.com, use calibre to DeDRM, then use Amazon's send-to-kindle site to get the books into my Amazon account, where it then syncs to all the things.
I read equally on an Amazon Paperwhite and an iPad with Amazon Kindle software loaded. Occasionally, I will read on my iPhone with Kindle software.
I want to de-Amazon my reading workflow. Please give me recommendations.
Requirements
- I would like to use a device that is not from Amazon or Apple. Big points for an open source device but am willing to use an Android tablet with ePub reading software loaded.
- It would be nice if there were an easy way to get ebooks on the thing. Would prefer a local sync but plugging in a cable to my computer is fine as well.
- Bonus points if it can sync reading progress between multiple devices, but am willing to just use a single device for reading.
