Timmy the whale is free – rachel.blog

Two multi-millionaires stepped in and with the support of marine experts from around the world they orchestrated an ambitious rescue mission that has never been done before. They flooded a barge, got Timmy to swim onto it, then with the Fortuna B tug boat pulled him all the way to the North Sea. He swam off the barge just over an hour ago and is now free and on his way.
This is exactly the what rich people should be doing with their money IMO. Not whatever it is fucking Elon Musk is doing.

@michaelharley @homlett The experts weren't locals, but flown in from Hawaii and South America, the promised GPS tag that was supposed to be attached to the whale never broadcasted, there's apparently no footage of the whale leaving the barge, the alleged place where it was released was smack-dab in the middle of heavy ship traffic instead of the clear north sea, there wasn't a lot of hope for the whale before it got towed onto a barge that was too small and too noisy for it, the local experts all agreed that this wasn't a good idea, and the whole "millionaires saving a whale" thing is probably again more greenwashing than actual charity.
(the fact that the linked article in turn uses fucking BILD of all outlets to link "for more news" should be concerning enough. For those in the US: BILD is the tabloid version of Infowars)
(yes, I am sad that the whale got beached and suffered. Yes, I would like it to live freely and healthy. But the way to achieve that is by having less ship traffic and cleaner oceans and probably also a lot less rich people)
